During the winter season, the temperature of the environment reduces considerably and therefore we need to keep our machines ready for the winter season when the first frost starts.
Following are few key areas of équipement forestier which means forestry equipment that need attention.
- Hydraulics
It is necessary to check the condition of various parts that are associated with hydraulic by confirming from the operator’s manual. Make sure that the level of hydraulic oil and their grade is right. Make sure that filters are in good condition. Replace it if necessary.
- Engines
For winter months, you need to change the oil and also ensure that there is no leakage of oil. Make sure that no part of the engine is damaged and everything is in proper working condition. Make sure that the heater is working properly.
- Electrical components
Make sure that electrical parts are not drawing extra amount of current and all the cables are in proper shape. Ensure that all ground straps are properly screwed and there are no loose connections. Battery must be inspected and charged. Replace it if it is not getting fully charged. Clean all the terminals of the battery and no corrosion must be present.
- Differentials
You must take the sample of oil and get it compared with reference oil grade as given in service manual. If needed then change the oil and filter. Also check for any leakage of oils. You need to check the magnetic drain plug too so that there should not be any debris settled there. Make sure that there is no leakage or overfilling.
- Operator cab
Make sure that wiper motor is working properly and if the wiper blade is not ok then get it replaced. The can bulbs must be functioning and door sealers are in good condition and ok. Refer your maintenance manual and make sure that fire suppression system is in order. You may also check with the dealer to ensure that its software is up-to-date.
- Transmission
Now you need to make sure that transmission is fully ready to go and also check the grade of the oil. You may replace the oil based on the recommendation of maintenance manual. Also check the cooler, drivelines and all the mountings. Ensure that gear movements are smooth when you shift up or down. If calibration is necessary then do it.
- Undercarriage
In order to check undercarriage, do the machine walk around. Check the rollers and other fasteners. Also make sure tires and chains are in good condition.
