We know a lot about work ethics and how to make sure one follows the rules as an employee. However, people rarely talk about ethics when it comes to executives. To be honest, this is one of the most important things to know both for business owners and for the people who work for them.

While there are a lot of different factors to it, the 7 main principles every executive should follow no matter what field they’re business is in will make a good start.

Honesty

First and foremost, executives must be honest with their employees and partners. Don’t mislead anyone or try to get an advantage for yourself at the price of someone else’s reputation. Although this is the main ethical principle, many executives, unfortunately, neglect it.

Integrity

An ethical executive and a leader will always show personal and professional integrity. They will not sacrifice their business goals and principles for anything less important, no matter how appealing. They will also never be hypocritical towards the employees and the business plan of their company.

Trustworthiness

Keeping your promises is not only one of the main ethical points for executives, but also a great way to establish oneself as an authority figure in their company and in their field of business. Make sure you avoid misinterpretations of your words by simply talking to your colleagues and employees about everything happening within the company. Being transparent is the best way to prove your trustworthiness.

Loyalty

It’s very important to provide loyalty to your employees. Giving a second chance and helping getting used to the specifics of your work are precious things you can give to the people you work with. It is also not redundant when cooperating with your partners. Business is difficult to find a place in, so make sure you express some understanding to your partner companies.

Concern for Others

High level of egoism is by far one of the worst things when coming to business. If it’s unclear why, think about the reputation of your company, at least. If people see you have no concern for your workers, they won’t be sure in your goods and/or services too.

Respect for Others

It’s also crucial to have respect for others’ rights, privacy, physical and psychological health, etc. This point starts with the understanding of certain circumstances when a person can’t handle an assignment, as well as more difficult cases. The latter include discrimination against a person’s race, nationality, age, religious beliefs, etc. Maintaining proper business communication as described by Quanta Consultancy Services is also one of the ways to show your respect.

Leadership

Ethical executives are true leaders, which means they take responsibility for their actions and decisions, keep going forward and bringing their team to new heights. They do their best to create the right environment for their employees and partners.

There are many more principles executives should about way before they start their business. However, it’s never late to become an ethical boss and a true leader. Simply think about other people and their life circumstances, respect their choices and beliefs, and be as honest and transparent as possible.
