What is SEO and why do I need it?

Where does the term SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) originate?

The first search engines emerged in the early 1990s. Google debuted in 1996, till then many other search engines bloomed. The web boom began, and people realised that there was money to be made from them. So they decided that require traffic. The search engines then became the best method to attract traffic. At that moment the owners of the websites started to think about how they could reach the top positions and from this SEO was born. SEO focuses on organic search results, meaning, what is not being paid.

  1. So what really is SEO?

SEO is a search engine whose process improves the visibility of a website in the organic results of different search engines. It is also often referred to by its English title, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

SEO is one of the “disciplines” that has changed in the most in recent years. Now, with SEO, we are pursuing what Matt Cutts himself describes as “Search Experience Optimisation” or, in other words, all by the user. Although there are thousands of factors that a search engine relies on to position one page or another, one could say that there are two fundamental factors: authority and relevance.

Authority is the strength of a website, is what matters to the users. The more popular it is, the more reliable is the information it contains. This is the factor that a search engine takes most into account since it is based on the user’s own experience. The more content is shared; the more users find it useful.Relevance is the relationship a page has to a given search. This is not merely that a page contains many times the term searched for (in the beginning it was) but that a search engine relies on hundreds of on-site factors to determine this. The SEO services are being applied a lot in the network, and there are companies specialised in providing such services with impeccable quality.

  1. 2. Why is SEO important?

SEO is necessary becauseit determines whether the website isbeneficial and useful for users and search engines alike. Although they still can’t see a web page the way humans do. SEO helps search engines understand about each page and determines its usefulness for others.

Now let’s take an example to make this more understandable:

We have an e-commerce site dedicated to the sale of children’s books. Well, for the term “colouring drawings” there are about 673,000 searches per month. However, how much are these visits worth? Well, if the average cost per click is 0.20€ for that term, we are talking about more than 29,000€/month. Here we are talking about Spain only, if we considered searches from other countries, then the number rises to 1.4 billion. Of these searches, 70% of the clicks are in the organic results, and 75% of the users do not reach the second page. If we take all this into account, we observe that there are numerous clicks per month for the first result.

SEO is the best way for your users to find you through searches where your website is relevant. These users are looking for what you offer them. The best way to reach them is through a search engine, and Broadplace is an excellent option to review your site according to the requirements that are being asked.
